Here's my made-in-England Coleman (10/54). It's a bit rough, but it works well. [ Thank you, @toad of the cape] "WB 237 54" This is my repaired pre-heater. This new generator was a kindly given to me by @phaedrus42 Up and running. This was a pretty straightforward fettle, except for the pre-heater, that had been corroded through: I bought a brass welch plug that was about the same inside diameter (slightly smaller) than the sprit cup. I tapped the pre-heater into the welch plug to mark the centre then drilled the correct size hole (I saved the brass filings for future brazing repairs). I then soldered the spirit cup into the welch plug making sure all the rim, and the base was soldered and not leaking. I had to also fix, with solder, three small holes above the rim of the welch plug. Testing for leaks. I refitted the check valve after making sure the ball was clean and free moving. "237-25" Test firing: The globe (chimney) is a Schott Suprax: one of a few I picked up from a camping store closing down sale in Hobart a while back. Not pretty, but an excellent, robust, high powered lantern. Good for working in the shed! There is some discussion of this lantern here. Cheers Tony
Bugger me Tony,I thought you wanted a colander with that not a chalice, good job their fella. You will note it burns hot and bright.Sadly as I had said it was running too rich and most likely needed a replacement jet so good to have that new generator (well done that chap). warm regards "by the light of a lantern" toad
Sure,I had three all found in South Dunedin,Otago,NZ (Highlander country) That survey @phaedrus42 has conducted will need augmenting. toad
@toad of the cape Thanks. South Dunedin in NZ is really not that far from Howden, Tasmania (as the albatross flies). I shall place this one on @phaedrus42’s list with the additional information you’ve given me. Cheers Tony
Indeed, I would appreciate it if you would add yours. It is still here: coleman-237-features-2018-02-15.xls
@phaedrus42 I shall enter this one in your spreadsheet. Cheers Tony Edit: I think I have successfully added the information about this lantern to your spreadsheet.
Nice pickup Tony ! I’ve seen a couple of these turn up in Australia and a few 249 “English “ in New Zealand
This is great, Tony. You've really done some fine restoration here. The spirit cup on my 237 was made of steel and the rim has almost completely corroded off. I had to pack in some asbestos which serves as a wick for the spirit, since I could no longer fill it to the brim.
The instructions that came with the generator fitted to this lantern are here: https://classicpressurelamps.com/th...ting-a-coleman-generator-canadian-1951.12512/ Cheers Tony
