I have eventually managed to remove the rounded off nrv. I brought a Korean made tool I found online. It took all afternoon and I had to work for it but it did work. I found putting some o rings on the tool made life easier keeping it straight and when it looked like I had dug deep enough for it to bite I filled the font with boiling water to help ease it out. Next job is to figure out how the pump washer fits, I don't seem to have much thread.
@Tony Press Maybe you could use a tool similar to the one James used to get out the NRV on your 242 if things get serious. Looks like the tool has a decent sized Easyout doing the work. Cheers Pete
Pete The problem with that is it will likely ruin the NRV, and not knowing its shape, thread etc, it might not be replaceable. Cheers Tony
@Tony Press Yes, that’s the issue. I do know that Old Coleman Parts have a reproduction NRV that go into the very early 242s with the bayonet type pump retainer. I have one here if you need it. I would think that it’s compatible ...... Cheers Pete
@Tony Press No worries here’s the link. They have a genuine NOS listed just before the repo one for $13US. OldColemanParts.com :: Lantern Parts :: Check Valve Reproduction Cheers Pete
This lamp is now finished and ready to fire up. It has been fitted with a new, mixing chamber, nozzle, jet, needle, pump washer and nrv.
It runs lovely, nice and bright with a lovely peaceful grumble to it. Looks like the graphite packing might need changing or tightening at some point, but for now I shall bask in it's glow and enjoy.
