art ... only the best paraffin/ kero from now on ... no smelly red diesel / or ordinary diesel..

Ha ha, cheers, yes a wooden pump knob with the metal insert gorilla-glued into it, works great!
Some further fettling to my £8 Chinese lamp has seen it gain 4 extra glass supports in the shape of some threaded rod, so it no longer wobbles alarmingly. With these diy mods & the awesome heat/light output, I'm begrudgingly quite liking the lantern now

 

Theres nothing at all wrong with your lamp and I do like the wooden pump knob it must be more comfortable I would imagine .. its throwing some light out there and heat perhaps .. good luck
