Hello everyone, I'm new to the world of pressure lamps. I recently restored an old Petromax HK500 from the 1960s. After having several air/fuel mixture issues, I replaced the entire vaporizer assembly (the part that goes down into the tank). I also correctly adjusted the gap between the jet and the mixing chamber. However, when I light the lamp, I get a small flame leaking around the ceramic burner where the mantle is tied on. I've tightened the mantle properly, but I can't figure out where the flame is coming from. Has anyone experienced this before or have any ideas what could be causing it? Thanks in advance for your help!
Welcome aboard! The ceramic nozzle or the part which it screws into may be loose or both parts could be loose.
Brûleur en céramique tout neuf et tout est bien serré. Je me demande si je fixe mal le manchon ? Y a-t-il d'autres causes possibles ? Merci pour votre réponse rapide !
Brand new ceramic burner and everything is tightened properly. I'm wondering if I'm attaching the mantle wrong? Any other possible causes? Thanks for the quick reply! "
Those parts which I mentioned can loosen with use, the jet which screws into the top of the vapouriser can also loosen with use.
I think I might not be tying the mantle properly, maybe that's where the leak is coming from, even though I tied it tight with a double knot
Hi Ben + Welcome! videos have to be uploaded to youtube then a link provided apparently? sorry but IT is not my area looks to be working well apart from that though?? regards pb
You have very swift keyboard skills ! ok, it may be just what happens when a new mantle is fitted? Often they have to ‘settle down’ or acclimatise so i would run it for an hour and see if it improves? when its cooled down check to see if the ceramic burner is loose? perhaps other members can offer advice cheers p edit** what type of mantle did you use btw ?
That should not be happening and it's not a problem which I have come across, the jet may have loosened, that often happens with new parts, some collectors use thread locker on the jet's threads and then tighten it. Other members may have had that problem and found a cure for it.
It"s due to the burner. Einher too many of the small holes are blocked , or the burner is cracked innside the mixing chamber. You can't see that from the outside.
