Its good to see a report on gloria because we dont know what Tony has stored away in the large box ? .Bob
That will be interesting to know what is stamped on the tank. From appearances it should be a Radius 119 from between 1934 and 1937, but it looks like it has been fitted with an Aladdin handle.
Nils It has “Aladdin No. 12A Made in Sweden” stamped on the tank; “Radius Made in Sweden” on the pump; and the plugged pressure gauge hole. Cheers Tony @Nils Stephenson
That is interesting. All the Aladdin 12A lamps I have seen (not many) have had the pump higher up on the 'corner' of the tank and the filler cap with the pressure release screw. This would mean that there are at least two variations of the 12A (I am not counting the 14A here).
Nils I thought it was very interesting when I opened the box. I will make sure I document this one well. Cheers Tony
Nils On the point of the 12A v 14A, I’m now convinced that the 14A model designation refers to the sliding handle, regardless of the stamping on the tank (12A or 14A). It might be time to do some sorting out of the Reference Gallery. Cheers Tony
Yes I agree with you about the 12A and 14A designations. The one with a lever should be the 14A, even though mine has 12A on the tank. Yes, some sub headings under Aladdin would be good. 12A, 14A and 1A to start with.
Having had a better look in the gallery, I can see that this version is represented. Another lamp to put on my wish list.
Next can off the rank... Not a Gloria, but pretty interesting, and it came out of the Gloria pile: Cheers Tony
@Jean J It’s a pressure lantern... I must admit being coy. I’m hoping it’s a puzzle for some. All, of course, will be revealed. Cheers Tony
It ain't a puzzle for either me or George! - or another well-known lampie who wandered around the field at Newark one year using one as his go-to source of illumination... But we'll let you keep a few others in the dark for now...
@David Shouksmith Yes...I know you know. This was sold here in Oz. So not out of an imported collection. Cheers Tony
It seems to be raining Thomas Kerosafe lanterns at the moment with Conny and Duane entering the fray. Jean, as far as I can work out it’s a Thomas Kerosafe M-4001: Thomas Kerosafe M-1004 lantern Cheers Tony
Looking good ! I can see the Tilley clip there, Tony...is that what you used?..If so, then was 1 preheat enough? Also was it similar to a Coleman in terms of pumping and how many pumps and so on?? cheers
@podbros The generator on these lanterns does require a very good pre-heat. I found that the Tilley clip worked well but requires the mica to be off the lantern. I am making a special torch for this lantern from brass wire and carbon felt. I used 35 pumps from a (long) Coleman lamp pump. Tony
