That is a nice tight fit too. I should have mentioned that the wire in my picture above is about 1.3 mm.
Ah thanks @Anthony . I might have another go if i can find some 1.3 galv at a later date. 2mm is quite difficult to work with.
Update on making the bowl wire from yesterdays experiments. @Anthony pointed out the original wire was 1.3mm gauge. Best we could find was 1.25mm galv wire from Bunnings. This worked out quite well but I needed to make a better wire twist Jig to hold the ends in the drill better.
Hi @Tony Press . Will take a couple of hood photos tomorrow. it looks good at a distance but the vitreous enamel has lots of small holes in it that have rusted. I'm considering finding a company to re-enamel it for me. When its done up I intend to return it to the guy who gave it to me as a gift.
The Shade arrived this week so Im now looking into making the retainer clips. I decided the lamp wouldnt be complete without it and Im glad I did order it. @Tony Press or @AussiePete can one of you post the shape please? Latest photo And for @Tony Press heres the closeups of the hood.
@MozzoSA Overall length: 70mm Width at base: 25mm (1”) Width at tip: 10mm Length to point of taper: 22mm Slot: 5mm X 12mm Cheers Tony
Shade almost complete. I might have a second go at the paint colour on the retainer clips though as they don't quite match.
The hood cost $50 to re-enamel in black. It's probably not as authentic Kayen but I don't think the guy I'm returning it to will care. I will take a better photo of the hood and post on the weekend.
It did work really well but unless you had an especially sentimental or valuable piece it may not be worth it. These guys are old school so happy to throw a hood in the kiln from time to time.
