I'm home after spending almost a week with Neil. He is very alert when awake but soon gets tired and spends much of the day asleep on the couch. He doesn't have much appetite so doesn't eat much so has lost more weight and is a little weaker than before. On Saturday evening, concerned about his condition, we called the paramedics and after triage it was decided to take him to hospital. I spoke with him on the 'phone on Sunday evening and he sounded a lot brighter, in fact, quite cheery. He'll be in hospital until he's stable but after that he wasn't sure what was going to happen but it looks like he'll be transferred to a hospice where he can have twentyfour hour care.
Thank you for the update, Henry. Give him our best wishes if you have the chance. Juan Ps: not sure if "wishes" is the best word for the circumstances, sorry if not: is my Spanglish
Appreciate the update Henry. Nice that Neil is alert when awake. A difficult time but good that so many lampies wishing him well and from me also.
Thanks for the update Henry Comfort for body and soul is key in the Hospice, and to that end.... I think you should pull a rubber glove over the smoke-head in the ceiling and light up a few lamps to while away an evening! You may get away with it once... Alec.
I popped over to see Neil & H on the Wednesday of Henry's week long visit & as Henry said Neil was chirpy in between naps , but getting about was very tiring for him. H & me finally fixed up Neil's 500cp OL50 with the new burner conversion I made which made him happy. We all shared a spicy Chinese curry in the evening which perked Neil up no end as he could taste it , his meds were affecting his taste a bit & then the goodbyes & the long run home , but a good day together. Stu.
@Juan he's 81. I'm not sure but think his birthday is sometime in May. We'll have to wait and see if he can make it to 82. Don't need to cover the smoke / CO2 alarm Alec, we've an open fire and anything nasty is drawn up the chimney. We regularly suppliment the heating with either a Tilley R1 or R55 though it has been a while since I lit the TL10 we had at home when I was a lad. I'll remedy that tonight. Mmm, might even light a wall light too.
I never switch on the TV when getting home, today I did, don't know why. But I do know now...... Duscovery, find it flog it, I hope I can tape the full episode.
I laughed when they introduced him as Neil Smith! I did ask him why they'd done that but I can't remember what he said now. Possibly at his request and to preserve his privacy, I'd imagine...
Good idea but then first you need at least the year, season, episode nr. They repeat every season over and over on tv, I have no clue in which episode this was.
Fellow lampers, Neil's daughter Krissie phoned me not long ago with some bad news and it is with a heavy heart that I tell you all that Neil passed away earlier this evening.
Henry, that is sad news.. thank you for letting us know Please pass on our very best wishes and condolences Take care too pb
Sorry to hear this henry but thanks for letting us all know. Least Neil is at peace now with no more suffering in gods care. Pete
