Well, new gaskets (thanks for the recommendation) and another new wick and now lights and stays alight !. Don't know which works but very happy. Many thanks Grandad was a pit deputy so I believe this lamp was used by him but like a lot of other miners he has not been around for a long time to ask. Thanks again.
