Thanks for the generous offer David, :D I'll bear that in mind, at the moment though, there are still some lamps that I need and don't have so I'll hang on to them for now. I'll keep an eye out for you though. ;) :D :D

I finally made my Alladin work and all I now miss is a wick-cutter but no hurry there I hope.
    Here she is: 1386942477-172_opt.jpg

and the wick/mantle burns smooth and uniformly:

    1386942898-173_opt.jpg
    Me like :content:

Now I have a new lamp, a wall-lamp marked "Pigeon" with a wall-tank, a tube to the globe and a weird wick.
Anyone familiar with "Pigeons" and what do they burn?

Jeff did put in a fine link - but I cant find a similar lamp in there ](*,)

Hi Claus, the Pigeons I know of (other than those thiefs that steel my chicken's food! ) burn clean petrol (Coleman fuel, panel wipe, Aspen4 and the likes) or, as they call it, essence minerale. They have a small round wick and the fount is filled with what looks like cotton (might well be something else) to absorb the fuel. When dropped, fuel will only seep out slowly. The makers claim this makes their lamps non-explosive.

    Hope this helps!

    All the best,

    Wim

    Hi Wim and merry christmas.
I collected the lamp in your backyard so of course you should know O:) I will try to fire it up with gasoline as I hope you mean and I will do it outside together with my good friend co2 fire extinguisher.
It looks nice and I glad to hear it is not kerrosene it is running on because I intend to use it as a cozy indoorlamp. It looks decorative.

    Neat little lamps these Pigeons.
There were many different manufacturers which built such lamps, and most of them are designed to burn gasoline as Wim akready said.
The filling is often found to be llama wool or similar stuff.
Maybe this Link will also help you.

    Regards, Martin

    P.S.
Got a nice Aladdin 11 (left one, built in 1922-1928) from the states recently with original 501 shade and cone cap mantles. Works perfectly and doesn't make any noise and odour: the ideal lamp for the long winter indoor evenings. And looks even better than the Aladdin 12 with 601 shade (right one) in my opinion.

The left shade you have there Martin is exactly the one I wish for my Aladdin's birthday. It looks stunning and makes the lamp less heavy. They are once in a while to be found in Ebay but always in USA with a questionable trip to take and expenses too. Nice lamp Martin and thanks for sharing so I can see how it looks with that shade incl. lamp.

The Pigeon-link is very good and I found the lamp there, a Lampe n° 27 Applique simple avec son globe but with another smaller globe, N° 36 Verrine Pigeon.
When it is restored in a few weeks, I will show pictures of it.

I found this youtubeclip from a pigeon like the one I bought and it looks a bit more than a wickie but not as good as a Aladdin. Nice little lamp this.

Yeah Gneiss hopefully a shade will stabilize the flame.
The shade from Martins link is rather wide and large-ish.
Seeing this clip I fear the shade my lamp comes with is to narrow/small :?
The guy from the clip uses "Zippo"-fuel and that is some sort of kerrosene as I rememnber. These lamps were ment to burn gasoline if I understand the french site from Martin right :content:

Zippo Fuel is White Petrol, very similar to Coleman fuel, if my memory serves me correctly.

That's correct - it is definitely NOT paraffin/kerosene, being much more volatile...

My memory tells me the same White gas - Shellite = Lighter fluid.
I don't think a flint would ignite Kero / Paraffin

 Everytime this fuel-issue is comming up it ends in cluster--ck.

All countries uses differents words for the same thing.

    Gasolin=benzin=petrol=aspen2-4,panelwipe?
    Petroleum=kerrosene=parafin=ljusfotogen
    not to mention alcohol=spirit=sprit=ethanol

Above is just examples and I might be wrong in some of them. Beside that as Christer say there is a lot of company-names for fuels floating around.

Even the scientific names as Christer uses is not the same - well a bit - but there is so many of them in the proces of cracking and alkylating the fuel that it still confuses.

It would be nice here on cpl to have a "Fueltranslater"-bottom among all the other choices for a quick draw when doubt darkens my mind.
I wish such one for christmas - and a beer :-k

Merry Christmas, Claus - look in the Tech & Info / Fuel Names part of Doron's site. I'll bring your beer with me when I come to pay you a visit so be patient!

But in reality it is even worse than you suggest - in the UK, the word 'petrol' is actually a shortening of 'petroleum spirit'.

Given your name, I expect you also have a big white beard, a bright red suit and some reindeer grazing nearby. But don't worry - your secret's safe with me... ;) :-$

Ha King David and Santa Claus - rocks.

Here she is. Well it is certainly not the burner-system from the youtube-clip and I can no-where find it marked like the usual Pigeons are.
The lamp is definatly old but a lot of Pigeonish was made at that time.
    A real cute lamp anyway.

I got this Aladdin lamp home a longerish time ago:
    http://0flo.com/index.php?threads/4322
And postman Pat had spoiled the shade. Just today before newyear my son found this one on the internet - and we went off and got it (I couldnt disappoint him - his hard work and good initiative). It fitted exactly.
I already start to like it more and more hehe - though its shape is funny.

    Here she is:

One of the benefits not often considered, is that all types of paraffin lamp double as heaters. I sit in our spare room, a small affair with two outside walls and no internal heating other than what drifts up the stairs. With an Aladdin Model 12 lit along with a Matador 15 line, the room gets to a perfect temperature - and in silence!
