Possibly, but I think it's more likely to be that the hood hampers the airflow through the globe cage and the problem is more one of insufficient oxygen for complete combustion... When my 930s re-surface I'll investigate - one definitely has BMD and I don't recall ever running the other. We'll see...
When you put the hood on there is a distinct change in the hiss as it is presumably constricting the airflow and thereby altering the mixture. If the lamp is just a little rich this may well be enough to 'fix' it. However my lamp is so rich that only blowing in the air gap improves things. Regards, Paul
Hello I have several of these 930 300 CP and 350 CP and have never had problems with these lamps. But - a friend of mine had problems - big problems. After 5 to 10 minutes suddently black mantle and mixing tube was glowing red. We changed jet, mantle, fuel and controled the gap and vapourizer - black mantle just as before. Then I said - do you have another keramic nozle - and we saw the tiny holes was bigger!!!! No more problems with the lamp, and both nozzle was Optimus 250 !!!!!!!!
I have discovered after a lot of use at Ashover that mine can develop black mantle and how. Mine does it after several hours if I just neglect it and let the pressure drop. A few pumps to bring it back to full brightness and it burns off the black again.
