@Henry Plews No. It's a reproduction globe made by "Mappio" in Thailand. I will show full details of the glass in the Reference Gallery soon. The glass is for an Optimus 883, so the correct base diameter but taller than a correct 882 glass (which I'm still on the hunt for). Today I shall use the photos you posted in an earlier thread (thank you) to make the rotating clip to hold the globe in place. Cheers Tony
Almost there, but I’m away from the workshop this week… Correct size glass: Now to manufacture the clip that holds it in place. Cheers Tony
Are you sure about the glass size? Diameter seems to small looking at the bottom and top hole to large.
@WimVe I’ll see when I get to fit it with the holding clip. I’ve not been able to uncover the measurements of an original: this copy is from Thailand. Cheers Tony
Well on your earlier picture it looks as if the glass fits better. But this can be an optical illusion. Is your glass catch completely missing or only the latch?
ah well, seems you have the right position as well as the hole for it ! I will take some measurements and pictures. Hold on.
Some pictures as well as dimensions. Made of pertinax (?), all corners rounded. Latch height (3mm) is difficult because I don't want to bend mine before I have globes. Height of the part is without the rounded tops, so include 2mm extra I guess. Paper grid is 5mm ps the last picture (6) is not the right position, just a way to keep the metal part stand up.
@WimVe Thank you indeed. Between your and @Henry Plews contributions, I will make a part to do the job, but it will be “functional”, not a copy, I’m afraid. Cheers Tony
@WimVe I have mocked up a clamp for the glass, and it works! The glass can be locked in place and will not move. I will now manufacture a final version; but I am again very busy this week at a conference, so it will have to wait until the weekend. While this copy of the original Petromax globe may not be exact, it will work on this lamp. Cheers Tony
