Problem with Petromax halo and bad brightness.

So, I replaced the needle and everything, it works great now. And it is very bright! I think it is fixed now. Although I do have another question, Should the burner and brass pice above it glow a dull red immediately after I turn it off? It glows around the j tube a bit too. Is this normal?

 

Here is it next to a 200a now. The picture makes the little one seem brighter but I assure you it is not, it is just because the mantle is white and the camera seems to not like that too much.

The burner ceramic cap and holder can glow red during operation. So long as you're not getting the red glow on the J-tube mixer, everything's fine.
Thoria-based(radioactive) mantles are usually, but not necessarily always, appear whiter than yttria-based ones.

at the upper position, the needle should rise max 0.5mm above the jet surface.

To me it looks like you did not get a manual with the lantern or any explanation about it.

The needle rod screws in the extender block and is fixated with a nut. Like said the upright height should be about .5mm above the jet.
Dull red is normal. Make sure the ceramic burner is not getting loose and that you pre heat long enough. Rapid is not that rapido.

 

Yeah I got a little manual wit it that said how to start it and put on a mantle. That’s about it.
