You probably won’t be pleased to know that most official style manuals these days (at least in Australia) specify that full stops are not to be used in abbreviations. They do specify that capitals are to be used where appropriate.

Therefore: Mister = Mr , New Old Stock = NOS , Number or number = No (if the context requires, No.) and numbers = Nos .

    Cheers

Given the number of TLAs we face in every day life, (see what I did there?!) adding 'extra' full stops can become a bit of a chore sometimes. I find myself on David's side of the fence gramatically and punctuationally speaking but there must be some industrial sectors where documents would end up trice as long if you included every dot that you're supposed to! The Machine Vision industry I used to work in is utterly swamped with acronyms and with each new product or technology that came out you had to kearn yet more of them!

The UK Civil Service probably have a plethora of working codes coveringfull stop useage... in fact there's probably a dedicated person who's sole job is to make sure each department follows the correct nomenclature to the letter!

I work in the railway industry that is full of them, rightly or wrongly the convention is to capitalise and omit the full stops.

Imagine how many languages around the globe.
Don't bother too much about conventions .
    Message must come through.
Of course mackburner is right, if message is not supported or in worst case inverted from ignoring conventions.

While purchasing the Total Lots 24 Number Pressure Lamp, the seller gave me some tools & 34 Number Glass Globe on free cost. I don’t know the Tools Name and it’s usages. Some Unused needles also was there in the Tolls Box.

The short ones with universal joints are to remove the jets from stoves and blow lamps. The long one is to remove pump non return valves. Handy things to have. The needles are Petromax types and will probably fit most of the lamps you have. Quite a useful haul. ::Neil::
