    @Tony,

    Mate, once again, I feel that you are being combative, defence & attack, perhaps it's just our personalities clashing, I don't know,

    In regards to the Ready-Lites from 1930, that is when I suspect the EzyLites were stopped being produced and that's why I said these lamps are from the 20's.

    The most interesting thing about Quirks and their use of Ready-Lites isn't the start date, it is the end date. Quirks were marketing Ready-Lite lamps and lanterns in Australia for more than 20 years after they were ceased production by AGM, at least to the middle 50's. I know Mr MacRae thinks that is because Quirks probably didn't update their ads. I doubt Quirks neglected updating their ads for a period of more than 2 decades. The company lasted for more than 100 years, they weren't that sloppy.

    I believe the more realistic reasoning is, that Quirks manufactured the Ready-Lites here in Australia. There are hollow wire and wall lamps that one would, without Quirks being in the equation, attribute to AGM. There is no documentation to support AGM marketing or manufacturing the lamps, yet there is for Quirks.

    Apologies if that's what you thought, @Matty. It was not my intention.

    I was just trying to get straight in my mind your comment above: "These lamps were produced by Quirks from the early 1920's...".

    I thought, because your comment was in response to the posting of the 'Goulburn'-style Quirk lantern, that you were saying that Quirks made that model in the early 1920s.

    You clearly have more information that I do - and I wasn't trying to rain on your parade.

    I'll send you the Quirks ad. I received tomorrow.

    Cheers

    Tony

    AGM made in Aus by Quirkes ? Quite possible of course because they did make the Victory which is early and at least in part made in Aus so they had the ability. Hard to prove though. The Goulburn specials are interesting because they use what is essentially a Kayen lantern tank. These have redundant bolt fittings so we can be sure these tanks were not made for Quirke but for Kayen. Perhaps Quirke did make the lamps and used a locally made tank when they ran out of the real thing. The use of old stock is interesting because they were using a long obsolete burner in the 1950s. Was that old stock or where they being made in Aus long after AGM had ceased making these parts? What I have not seen yet in any advert or other paper illustrating a Goulburn Special. That alone makes me think they were using old illustrations in the 1950s. ::Neil::

    I'm pretty sure it has been discussed in another post, but the Quirks tank is not identical to the known Kayen tanks. The general design is the same but there are small variations. I'll try and find the post, but not until I get home from work.

    Anthony kindly pointed out the post, which can be found here Quirk's Victory / Goulburn Special

    There may well be variations but there is no doubt the tank was not originally intended for the Quirkes Goulburn Specials since the fitter bolts are redundant in those lamps. I would assume that there has to be another lamp out there where those bolts have a handle fitted on them. ::Neil::
