I was just talking with Mark and he thinks you are talking about the lamp to the right of the TV.

It's actually a horse racing trophy, The Lithgow Cup from 1969. It has a KL80 sitting in it lol.

Ahh... Lithgow (NSW)... Cold, cold, cold. In 1969 I would have stopped on the train at Lithgow and bought a hot pie!

Graham, I think I know what you are talking about there, was like a traveling road show and entire towns were turning up to see it.

I'm never going to mention "my collection" ever again! But, Matty, does he have a Tilley FS1?

    Jean, I'll ask.

You can only see about half of what he has in the photos.

    Graham,

I've asked him your questions, waiting for a reply.

    Jean,

I've been thinking about that statement. To you and any one else that may have the same thoughts, I'm pretty sure Mark would be disappointed you would think or say that, even tongue in cheek.

I didn't know Mark from Adam. He emailed me and said if you want to talk lamps give me a call and left his phone number. He had seen some of my posts on this site and recognised I was a struggling newbie to lamps and thought he could help me with information etc.

His anonymity is testament to his small ego. He isn't about thinking I'm better than you or I have more than you. He loves lamps and is interested in the history of lamps as he has reams of paperwork. He hasn't got some lamps he'd like to see or own but he doesn't stress that he hasn't got a particular lamp and may never have one.

There are some lamps he is protective of for a noble cause. He would rather overseas collectors didn't see some of his lamps, especially those connected to Australia, as he worries a lot of lamps will be lost to Australian collectors.

He was pleased that some comments were made about his SL3. Because it's a well known light, so nothing to hide, he was pleased that other collectors around the world know that that sort of light made it's way to Australia.

He is as interested in the history of Aladdin, GS, SEQR, Kayen etc as I am. I'm hoping between us, and anyone else that wishes to contribute to topics started on this site, will build a factual history of those companies and their lamps in Australia.

If he hasn't a FL3 and you have, I'm sure rather than damning you, he would be very happy for you.

    Graham,

    Hi Matty,
I have no idea with the heater, Victoria Railways heater is the only reference I have heard made about it.
All I know about my Tilley SL3 is that years ago it was used as part of a vintage nautical display in a Melbourne restaurant. After the owner retired and sold the restaurant all of the display items went into storage for many years. If I remember right he bought it in Sydney took it to Melbourne and then back to Sydney for storage. His son ended up with the lot after he died. Lucky for me the son was now living in Brisbane and that is were I got it.
It has been used and the middle burner GF control tap has been changed to a newer one.

It might take a couple of weeks. Ross may be interested for them to go on the stove site.

He has many stoves, perhaps he has others that people might be interested in.

I was just on the phone with Mark for about an hour. You may be interested to know that you are only the second person in Australia, after him that he, knows of, that has an OL53.

He mentioned it with pride because he too likes to see what can be found downunder and would like to see those lamps stay here with a collector such as you.

Another industrial lamp you got recently, he considered calling the seller, whom he knew, and saying he'd buy it for fear it might go overseas. He was really pleased to see that you had listed the light on this site and it had indeed stayed in Australia.

    My Thoughts.
There is in Australia lots of Lamp, Lantern, Stove Collectors that we know of and what they have .
But its the quiet collector who may have stuff we don't know off to here .Some collectors only come to light when they have passed away and their stuff comes onto the selling market .
So in Australia we assume there is another one out here in a collection somewhere.
    Bob .

This collection looks like an amazing collection in similar diversity to that of yours Lamp Doctor Bob. I bet this collector would be amazed at some of your Tilley collection. What an awesome display of some amazing looking lamps you have shown us Matty. Wow thank you !!

There you go. Hearing that Bob has a collection to rival this doesn't surprise me. Mark knows of quite a few collectors with massive collections that we as a group don't know of.

Not wishing to pick or care whom has the bigger collection, Bob or Mark, what you see here is probably half of what Mark has. Most of his Tilley collection cannot be seen by these photo's.

It is great to hear and I'm sure Mark would concur, that collectors like Bob exist in this country. They may be unassuming and modest but at least they have the lamps in a safe place.

Looks like he might have more than I do. I wish I had that kind of space as well though. OL53 is a rare thing anywhere. I have only seen two in the UK. There might be one or two more of course with collectors I don't know. ::Neil::

I remember seeing a link a few years ago to a collection in (I think it was) Japan with an uncountable number of lamps and a couple of canoes.

Can anyone else remember it and post a link
