Found this specialist high temperature paint and it seems quite good for badly rusted and chipped Tilley hoods. Not a perfect gloss pristine finish but certainly a much better look for what might have been a discarded hood.

Paint tin recommends 2 coats apparently, but I have given this hood just one and it goes on really easy with a brush and no need for an undercoat. Just a good wire brushing of any loose material first.

The images show a Tilley before hand and after the hood painted and run for 2 hours in total so far. No sign of the paint giving way. Maybe good for those older units that don't get run much and certainly looks quite acceptable. Rated 'up to 600 degrees C.'. Thats about 1112 deg F.

Paint was about $45 at a country hardware store (Lyal Eales Store) in Hamilton Victoria, Australia. Only comes in black as far as I know, but that's what we need.

Interesting, looks better than rust. Time will tell if it works long-term. :-k
