I do have a Guardsman X246 1950's lantern which I have serviced, by replacing all rubber seals. All good. I have just got a 1973 X246B lantern, which I am dis-assembling, again to replace the seals. The control Cock 777 is somewhat different in design to the original X246. Is it possible to disassemble to inspect or replace the 155 washer valve or the 610 spring? Advice would be much appreciated. Cheers Simon Foxxx
The lower section of the control cock unscrews to grant access to the 'pip' and the spring. Usually just the pip needs replacing. If the spring is not strong enough and is in reasonable condition it can be stretched just a little but I would replace the pip only and see how that goes first. Use Viton rubber, not Nitrile rubber and the washers are available from the site sponsor Fettlebox.
Hi @Simon Foxxx its not always clear on the alu control taps that the bottom section with the gauze filter unscrews as it can look like part of the main body? but careful use of pliers can reveal the valve contents.. i generally use the hollow section on my pliers to grip them as it doesn’t mark them so much
