    Hi all,

that kind of sponge or even camel hair was commonly used in lamps to reduce the risk of explosions. Some wickies here may also know these cute little "Lampes Pigeon" or similar types. They are made as "petrol candles" and are advertised as "inexplosible" etc.
Besides limiting the area for fuel-air mixture inside the tank it will also prevent the fuel from pouring out if the lamp gets tilted or knocked over.

It actually looks and feels like wool, very fine wool, lama or so. 1410382280-Tito_Landi_rep_014_opt.jpg

Quote Roy Batty-ish: I have… seen things you people wouldn't believe… Tito Landi stablelamps on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched Maglite-beams glitter in the dark deep in the Titus Tank. All those… moments… will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to fettle…

Above is only for Blade Runner fans. ;)

Please share if you discover that the Landi wick is a natural fiber. My wife is a knitter, and I can easily come by natural fibre yarn or roving to replace the wick on one of my alcohol/spirit burners.

    Hi Al

The wick is definitely cotton. To give the diameter and density would be like selling rubberband in inches, so if you send me a PT with your name, adress, then I will send you a sample of the wick by letter.
The wick it self is bend at the middle and therefore looks like a old fashion floor-mop and it is 28-30 cm long straigtened out, so if bend it is 14-15 cm long.
