Now finished auction site so I think it's OK to post £510 RARE BRASS LILOR STORM LANTERN LIGHT PARAFFIN PRESSURE LAMP TILLEY PETROMAX TYPE | eBay
What are they mad or just crazy, sorry if its someone on the forum. Not even a globe wow, way out of my price range.
Nep036 Is the point that relative to trading cards the price explosion in lantern value is really just small potatoes ? If that's the case point well taken as it provides perspective of scale and decreases the outrage. lol Trading cards are investments for buyers do you think lanterns are now becoming investments for buyers even if value of the lantern is just in the hundreds of euros and that is what is propelling the increases?
Hi Hanzo, no, my intention was only to underline the fact that when dealing with collectibles there isn’t a real logic behind prices. Lamps and stoves, compared to other collectibles, are still cheap and most probably their prices we’ll keep to go up in the next years, as soon as new hungry collectors from strong economies will enter into this world.
It’s really hard to say at times. You can carry a baseball card or rare coin in you pocket but not a valuable lantern! I just recently watch a Coleman 200A “Christmas” lantern go for just under $1000 (and it could have gone higher, I stopped watching) and I paid just a little over $50 for mine! And it is in better shape than the one that went for a grand! It’s whatever the traffic will allow! The prices are really becoming outrages. I see a common Dietz monarch lantern I paid $10-12 for years ago now going for $50-60! It’s hard to get your head around something like this!
The “Christmas” lantern I was talking about went for $1300!! I just imagine paying that for a run-of-the-mill lantern! Someone has very deep pockets!
Prices are getting crazy.......but EBAY itself bothers me....... Everytime I do a search now I get the “ blue box of omitted listings” When did this start ??? Very annoying
I think at least part of the problem of inflationary lamp prices could be people using them as a kind of fun investment.
I think it's kinda useful in some cases due to some sellers listing in the wrong category so their products show up at the top of a price-sorted listing. For example, if I search for "samsung" in the "Mobile & Smart Phones" category, then with this filter the chepest item will be an actual phone. Without this filter the cheapest item is a phone case, which belongs in the "Mobile Phone Accessories" category.
Should we expect collapse of fiat money soon or are Asians just a bit crazy (and big lantern lovers)? Are lanterns better than gold? :-)
Gold Bond lanterns are possibly better than gold - they're much sought after by Coleman collectors. Perhaps something over £2000 could be a bit optimistic though...
Gold Bonds were only available through a loyalty program and purchased with stamps that were given to you when purchasing items at participating stores; these stamps were redeemed at a designated loyalty store. As far as I know this color was never sold directly to the public. Which is good; it’s a ghastly color, in my opinion.
Tilley Hendon Flood Lamp - Original Glass - Fully Functional - Antique - Rare | eBay Worth a punt? - it's "one of a kind"...
Only if I get to punt (kick very hard - in American “English” ) the seller into the sea. Where do you figure they came up with this estimate price?
