    The torch method is working decently, I suppose.
    I'd try that for preliminary attempts. As the same reasoning for welding, no one would automate it merely for an infrequent occasion.

    Great info. I might just find a small ready-made kiln if the price's ok.
    There are a fair number of those type S or K thermocouples that're in use at my workplace. The same goes for those industrial stand-alone controllers which have those PID features for ramp/soak heating and cooling profiles. For instance, we have those Honeywell UDC2000 and 3000 series digital controller units around here that could be wired and programmed for such an application. But they're fairly costly for some home use.
