I got to do a bit of “touch up” painting yesterday. I used a cut strip of paper and magnets to protect the asset number that the light’s industrial owner had stencilled on it. The tank requires a bit more than ‘touch up’, but I should complete that today. Cheers Tony
While waiting on the paint to cure on the light, I finished all of the repairs to the box; most of the painting; and refitted the hardware. Cheers Tony
Going to go over that box fine tooth and comb Tony . Only want to see slotted screws NO NO phillip heads . The whole box and lamp starting to look like when new . Bob
@Lamp_Doctor The only phillips-head screws are hidden. It's getting hard to find good flat heads these days. Cheers Tony
Looks great, Tony! Look I forward to seeing what kind of beam it shows. ARE there good flat head screws? I refuse to use them, and have been transitioning away from phillips as well.
@Marc I have a collection of brass flat head screws used in boat building, and I keep all the old steel screws I salvage (the ones that are not bent and still have a clean slot). But finding the correct size on a job like this is difficult. What type of screw head do you use? Tony
@Tony Press Sounds like your own personal hardware store. I prefer Torx. Positive drive, no twisting out.
Most of what we get in the UK these days seems to be low-specification Chinese shit that chews up at the first sign of a screwdriver. I've also used Torx lately. As you say, a positive drive and no twisting out - but they'd look out of place on Tony's box, naturally...
Finding cheese headed screws. I just pick them up at garage sales or markets . Like at market guy turns up and says cleaning out dads old hardware store been shut for 40 plus years the boxes of old stock is amazing . Well some of it comes home . Bob
@Anthony That’s ok. We can make it work properly by turning the whole thing over when I get to the Reef... Cheers Tony
In the daylight today: This thing is running very well! Cheers Tony Edit: In this photo I'm testing it with one of @phaedrus42 's Peerless DT-140 mantles.
@Matthew92 ... sorry, early in the morning. I meant: I am ‘that guy’ who put the glass in the wrong way around. But it needs tweaking anyway, so I’ll refit it today. Tony
Hah, install it inside out for all you want, it's heaps better than MY Tilley flood lamp! Well done Tony, beautiful work on the lamp and on the box.
