Ah, the King Seeley / Thermos / someone else, situation is a very complicated one indeed. I think Neil McRae (Mackburner) and maybe others understand what went on there and have posted about it here. However I couldn't make anything of it myself and I hope you can find it and have better luck figuring out all the twists and turns in the story!

Edit: Try looking here:- 1950's Sunflame 110 300CP

I've a Thermos do-nut type lamp here (Thermos 8321) but I've never felt confident enough about it to try to have it running. It's a nice enough thing to look at occasionally and ponder how it works without incinerating myself. Best advice I can give you about yours is to post a pic of it here and someone will be able to identify it for you and give some information. Maybe even a source of the missing glass. [-o<

Hopefully that's polite enough, if not particularly informative!

Hi All, many thanks to you all for the information on the King-Seeley. Having read through the comments I think it will go to the back of the queue for restoring until I am bit more confident with lamps. I'll build up the confidence and knowledge working on my tilleys and vapalux's first I think! I had a look at the King-Seeley last night and looking at the shape of the frame that houses the glass it does look like it is designed to hold 4 panes of glass as dwillie states so it is useful to know that I can fit another globe to it. I will also need to fit a new mantle so again any advice on what mantle will fit it will be greatly received.

I'm also aware that I've hijacked this thread by asking questions so apologies for that.

@daesm the wonderful thing about this forum is that threads do stray from the original topic, but members don't mind and are always willing to help. Besides, it's all activity and that was the original subject, no need for apologies. Contrary to what some people think, new members are always treated with respect. Some people just can't see their owns faults, because they're looking too hard to try and find it in others.

    Nice lamp by the way.

Yeah, I think in life if you go around looking for offence then you'll generally find it. Mind you, it took me a while to realise that myself... :p

Agreed but I think the lamp bit in this thread is worthy and needs to be split to form a separate one. As for the rest, it's nothing to do with lamps and never was so I'm a bit baffled as to why it's in the Pressure Lamp Discussion Forum. IMHO, it needs moving from here into the Lounge - or maybe The Bin. Christer?

    Hardly the Bin. [-(
But the Lounge would be correct. Or the Open forum, as it's called here. Same thing.
    It's moved now.

The little diversion can remain, but the actual lantern part is split to Amerika-Milspec.

Oh, and the other thing I should have mentioned - if you go looking for the best in people, then that's what you tend to get from them. Just sayin'...

If any comfort, at least Im back for a while...
In addition to the utilization and possibly sometimes contribution to the knowhow of this otherwise surely excellent community, I have come to enjoy the opportunity of exchanging insulting intimidations in the best of spirits.

    Would this work here?

    Yes. That's better.
I'll make a sticky for it, just as the one at CCS.

Above are some stats since we moved to the new forum platform. Things took a bit of a hit after the server move but are picking up again. There are new features in the pipeline for CPL & CCS so not sleeping here!

The robots are search machines, they cause no trouble (but don't feed 'em alcohol or else.....)

I've noticed that in the recent past, probably since the forum upgrade, I've missed spotting some new threads and also new posts in threads. After a bit of head-scratching I realised that I get to the home page, see the latest post in each section and often just click on it, thus bypassing the list of threads for that section. So if there were a second new thread I may not see it at all.
I wonder how many other users fall into this trap. Would it perhaps be possible to list the last two or three threads under the section heading on the front page? What are the pros and cons and is there perhaps a better way to draw attention to new content other than the latest one.

    @phaedrus42

    Phil

I always start at “New Posts”. (As a matter of fact it took me a week to work through the 900 or so CCS and CPL posts I’d missed on my last road trip).

    Cheers

    Tony

I know that threads often stray from their original topic.
The straying is often welcome and shows the quirky nature of members.
However, this thread goes way beyond the usual boundaries of original topic and natural progression.

The site now has many new posts each day and maybe this thread is now redundant.
