    Hello!

I haven’t posted in a while but I’d like to share my Tilley X359 I found. It's dated 7-60. It appears to have had the torch removed and plugged. I found this lantern in northern New Hampshire, USA. This is my one and only Tilley product and I am new to them. I originally thought it was a X246, but after doing some research it is not. I completely disassembled the lantern. I cleaned the fount with hot Lye and finished with a polish with Mothers Mag polish. Cleaned the vaporizer and valve. With help from a friend, I replaced all the pips and gaskets. The lantern also has its original Tilley Pyrex heat resistant globe.

A good looking lantern working well.

It's a shame that Tilley decided to use some sort of aluminium alloy and nylon for their rapid preheater, it was doomed to fail from the start. If they'd used brass, the lantern would have been more successful.

True, Henry, though the failure point was the bakelite-like material used to fabricate the ‘shutter’ on/off seal, which didn’t seal reliably.

The Tillite pre-heater can be made to work reliably however with a viton seal backed with brass.

@presscall, thank you for the pictures, information and the video of the preheat torch. Who knows, maybe someday I can rebuild the torch heater on mine..

Agree with you @Buggerlugs about that hood, it’s a lot more attractive than the flat black. Great job @Kgam1020 your lamp looks fantastic.
