    image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg And then there were five!

    I was lucky enough to find this lantern on EBay and won it for a fair price.

    Please forgive the poor photographs but it is the best I can do with an iPhone 4s.

    I am assuming as there appears no way to manually pressurise the lamp it must be atmospherically pressurised and runs on some kind of spirit.

    No doubt I will be asking a few more questions when I begin fettling it some time in the new year.

    Regards, Jeremy

    @X246A

    If it's the same as similar (eg Coleman) lanterns it is pressurised with an external hand-held pump.

    The filler cap is in two parts: the top piece unscrews to allow air to be pumped through the cap into the tank. The lowered part of the cap contains a "check valve" to stop pressure escaping. The top of filler cap is tightened as a second security.

    There's a picture of one of my pumps somewhere on here.

    Cheers

    Hi Jeremy,

    The Kynoch burns petrol and as @Tony says, you'll need a pump like one of these :
    classicpressurelamps.com/threads/canadian-coleman-lantern-pumps

    A live demonstration will take place at Ipswich (if I remember the pump).

    Henry.

    Hi folks.

    Thanks for the information and kind words. External pump, never thought of that! Shows I still have a vast deal to learn.

    Henry, six still shows they are a rare beast and I can't wait to see your pictures too.

    Regards, Jeremy

    Jeff, one that fills me with a little trepidation as I don't wish to bodge it through lack of skill. It's a bit different to working on a bulk standard X246B and even if I were to ruin it I could easily pick up a replacement. I intend to start this in the new year and may well co-opt a metal working genius to instruct and assist. Regards, Jeremy

    Hi Jeremy, you should be able to get all the gaskets you'll need from the Fettlebox. These old Colemans don't require any special tools, the ones with an internal pump need a tool to extract the check valve without damage.

    This is a really good candidate for a restoration, all the parts you'll need are easily found and there isn't anything really difficult with these lanterns.

    Hellow fellow collectors!
    For some time now, I've been reading silently here...
    Since 2016 I've been collecting wick lamps from Feuerhand and from 2017 on also pressure lamps.

    Can I add nr 9 please?
    Unfortunately without fuel cap, air tube, valve stem assembly and glass...
    *Sigh*

    Greetings from Belgium.

    That can probably be fettled to run. The main parts are there. It has the valve, generator and burner casting. The filler/air valve is possibly the same as an Akron from the US or an Evening Star. You are missing the main valve spindle and control wheel but that is just a needle valve and again it is possible some other make will fit. Chances are the internal thread is a BA so that can be fabricated. The air tube and mantle tube are likely standard 1/2" brass thread and they can also be fabricated but again will be standard parts from another make. I would look at Akron, Nulite, AGM 100 series, Pre 1930 Coleman and Evening Star for compatible parts. ::Neil::

    I hate to burst your bubble but are you sure it's a Kynoch ? The top nut is plain like on a Nulite, the base plate looks to be steel (the few Kynochs that we know about have an all brass fount) and where is the badge ?

    The lantern is old and deserves to be rescued but the fount will need some extra work, I copied the image of the base plate and enlarged it, there looks to be stress cracks on the rim.

    Oh well spotted Henry. This is probably a Nulite Storm King or a Hasag 100. More likely Nulite perhaps 'cos they never marked the tanks but in the period Hasag did with a plate soldered to the base plate. ::Neil::

    @JEFF JOHNSON thx :-)
    @Mackburner thx also Neil...

    @Henry Plews : thx too...you are absolutely right! No plate or traces found of a plate on the fount.

    I'm very sorry! I started mainly collecting Petromax and Coleman...later on followed up with some Vapalux, Bialaddin and Tilley lamps.
    I certainly have got a lot to learn!!!
    C
    we say I just showed a Nulite lamp? But wich model?
    Certainly a rare find in Belgium...

    Thx again for the info!!!

    Greetings,

    Now I'm even more puzzled...:-s
    Could it be a Hasag 100???

    For a reference:
    HASAG 100

    I never found any markings, numbers or whatsoever...

    If anyone has a clue...spit it out :mrgreen:

    It will be a Nulite model 1 or 100 Storm King or Hasag 100. Here are the two posibles. Hasag copied the Storm King with their model 100 and they are near identical. There are some very minor subtle differences in things like the burner castings so we think they were made in Germany under a license agreement. These Nulite copies do turn up in Europe and possibly PeeBee lanterns are also Hasag but this is mostly guesswork. ::Neil::

    @Tony Press

    I’m afraid it’s still on the to do list. Other easier projects came up and being a coward it has been pushed to the back of the pile! :whistle:
