Made a stop gap from brass mesh as the lamp is only for display and will not be used. Hood was in good condition for a change. I merged the two topics since the second post you made in the fettling section actually was much better suited for the reference gallery with all the detail pics. I won't reduce the size on all these pictures, but please do reduce to a more practical size before posting in the future thanks! 2015 pixels wide is way too large to be practical in a forum. Earlier we said 640, but people's screen sizes are generally larger now so I'd say 800 often is OK too.
Is that why the text is so mega small on my iPad, that I have to enlarge the text to read it Christer ?
Ray, if the picture fit to the screen when looking at your iPad, it might be the case that the text is down scaled instead. I get that phenomenon when looking on my tablet. When watching on a real computer, the large images stay in their original size and force you to scroll sideways both to be able to read all text, but also if you want to see everything in the pics.
The burner is the same as the usual X246. The control cock has an extra valve to allow Paraffin to the small tray at the base of the vaporiser. The tray contains a wick which provides pre heating without the need for me the.The lamp uses the longer 169 vaporiser.
There really isn't much you can do with the hood unless you have it re-enameled, which I guess is possible but I'm guessing expensive, I'm not the original poster but I did do a similar restoration recently and I used Ford Arizona Gold by Hycote (fairly common brand) Martin

@Buggerlugs It’s hard to get an exact colour to the Tilley gold, but in Australia “VHT” brand Universal Gold is pretty close. Tony
@Buggerlugs There is no paint that will last on a Tilley hood if you use the lantern. I've tried many... The hoods were enamelled. These days I use stove black on the rusty bits. Cheers Tony
