Lo and behold this unusual Tilley X246. It features a metal label to instruct the user to fill the font with paraffin only. It also has two "Veritas style" clips to secure the hood to the frame. I've installed a more recent style hood as the old original one is covered in a layer of lead or tin. Probably an attempt to cover up the missing enamel. Maybe some day I'll find a correct replacement for it. I kinda like the "barnfind" look it has. I'll probably leave it this way. The speculum on the fount is too fare gone to polish anyway. To get it running was just a matter of taking it apart, installing a new washer kit and putting it back together. Really like the simplicity and reliability of these old lamps. Moneyshot
@Emiel That’s a very interesting lamp to have. You have restored it very well preserving its history. A great money shot that confirms a successful operational fettle, well done. Cheers Pete
@Emiel nice original lamp, working well! I think the only variation of a Guardsman I don’t have yet....
Thanks guys! @Graham P there are some clues about the origin of this lamp in the threads started by @David Shouksmith and @M.Meijer. Tilley X246 (1950-54) Dutch BB? 1950-54 X246 with Dutch history...
