This is an Austramax 3/300 Table Lamp. Advertised by Austramax as a Standard Lamp. Not that common, even in Australia. Here, dressed with a small Coleman shade. Here, as it came. Here with a bail (as a hanging lantern). “7” as a casting mark. Austramax Pyrex Here with the small Coleman shade. A beautiful small lantern. Cheers Tony
@Tony Press Now that’s a rare find and in good condition too. She’s a “must have”. Thanks for sharing. I had no idea these existed. Enjoy Pete
I will attempt here to tie together some further information about this lamp. It was described by Austramax as a dual purpose “Standard Table Lamp” (see here). I’ve seen a 1953 advertisement for this lamp. I suspect it was for sale in the early 1950s, but I don’t know for how long. Because the tank has “Patent Applied For” on the Austramax logo, it has to be later than the 1946 patent application (which was not for the lamp or Austramax lantern, by the way). The three examples I know of have the green handle and green hood (which Austramax called a “cowl”). Cheers Tony
The lighting instructions for the Austramax Standard Table Lamp read: AUSTRAMAX Dual Purpose Kerosene Pressure STANDARD TABLE LAMP 300 Candle Power This lamp gives a soft light without glare. In addition, it may be used as a hanging lamp or as a storm lantern. To use as a hanging lamp: Purchase an Austramax handle Part No. 57. To use as a storm lantern: Purchase Austramax Part No. 54 Cowl Cop and Part No. 43 Cap Nut. All parts are interchangeable with Austramax storm lantern which is fully described in this booklet. This standard lamp will be an ornament to any home. Full chrome finish with a parchment shade. When lighting, first remove the shade then proceed to light as instructions on page one of this booklet. Be sure to use only the best lighting kerosene from a clean oil-free container. The fitting for the lamp shade is contained in a small envelope and enclosed with your Austramax Table Lamp. To fit, unscrew small nut, insert fitting on top of shade and screw up nut. Draining Fuel Container: It is recommended the fuel container be drained periodically, this will remove sediment and any moisture which may collect through condensation. This refers to Table Lamp or Lantern. [See photo of box here: Austramax Lamp] Cheers Tony
