Here is my recently fettled Norman Lantern manufactured by Austramax. Based on the advertising shown here https://classicpressurelamps.com/th...from-june-1947-to-dec-1950.19068/#post-157984 I believe the lantern was sold between 1947 and 1950. I believe the construction is the consistent to the early Austramax 3/300 The collar is stamped NORMAN 300 CP FOR KEROSENE No stampings on the tank. The tank has two threaded holes for fitting the fuel system, one is blocked. It is not stamped PATPEND The cage is secured with a countersunk screw. Looking at the other two examples in the Reference Gallery I believe it was manufactured after Austramax Norman/Patent Pending stamped PATPEND and before Pre 53 Austramax " Norman " with NORMAN stamped on the tank. There was no bail with the lantern. Fitted new seals and stainless steel mesh in nozzle. Broken cleaning wire still needs replacing. As found
@Tony Press Thanks Tony, I picked it up locally off "Marketplace". It was in a box of 3 mixed lanterns. The blue hood was what sparked my interest. Didn't realise it was a Norman until I got it home and started to clean it up. Haven't lit it yet, needs a new nipple and cleaning needle (on order)
The Norman by Austramax. Very Cool lanterns, here’s mine, bludge globe with red lettering, I named this one Ronny after a great long time friend, I only light it up for the anniversary of his passing Original as found condition
@Darryl Durdin It would be good to get some detail photos of your Norman in the Reference Gallery as there aren’t many there. In particular the stamping, pressure release, etc. That will help getting their production periods sorted. Cheers Tony
The NORMAN, to me, is a new and pleasantly surprising variant of an already good Australian lantern. Now, it’s another lantern that I need to find. Thank you for sharing Cheers Pete
I think I got this wrong. The construction is consistent to the last version of the 2/300 with the collar stamped above the pump. Austramax 2/300 (V.4?)
Thanks for that clarification, Martin. I see that the Norman that Darryl posted in this thread has a different "Norman" stamp on the tank. That's why I asked for it to be put in the Reference Gallery. Cheers Tony
I'm not sure you did. The fact that there is no "PAT PEND" stamp on the top of the tank would indicate that it matches with the first of the 3/300 variations. The stamp on the collar only though is a bit of a conundrum. As this is produced for someone else, maybe it doesn't quite follow the same pattern as the 'real' Austramax lamps.
