Hi Guys Love the site, the amount of information available is incredible. I am a rookie when it comes to pressure lamps. I first bought a x246B about five weeks ago and now I have THREE..... ( is there a " Fettlers anonymous " ? ) I swapped out the seals on the first one and it runs beautifully. The second one does this.... https://www.youtube.com/shorts/c83xSMVJ0wo It burns nicely but has a whisp of smoke coming through one of the air holes and when I apply a flame it pops and dims.... I have taken out the bit with the dome and the three arms (not sure of the terminology yet) and it looks fairly clean and intact with no obvious gabs or leaks. I dont know why it would emit unburned fuel ( smoke / vapor ) through the air hole..... it has me baffled which isnt very hard to do. The third x246B will have to wait awhile..... because I am married and I want to stay that way becasue she is the most beautiful I could get. Paul
This should have quite a simple fix. It's likely the gas stream from the vapouriser is off centre and hitting the air tube or it's being diverted by some obstruction. You are lucky having 2 lamps. You can see if the trouble follows the burner assembly or the vapouriser by swapping the tops. Vapourisers which don't squirt a vertical stream of fuel when they are cold do this. When you light the wisp of vapour you are making it burn up in the mixing chamber above the mantle. Don't do that. It kills them very quickly. see here Beyond repair and here X246A Burner Help
Thanks JonD, that thread you directed me to was VERY interesting. it was very rabbit hole-ish .....so much to learn and so much information to read. Love it. The vaporiser gives a vertical stream when cold so I took your advice and swapped the tops and the problem seems to be in the burner. I will take it apart, inspect and clean it and see where I stand. Thanks for the avenues to investigate.
Thanks Jeff, I was delighted to find that there is a huge community for this type of thing.......and I just love the word fettling ( also doing it)
