Excuse my ignorance, this Bialaddin model, probably from the 1940s, doesn't have a needle for the needle? I have disassembled it and I don't know if it is missing parts or it is very simple Thanks for your help Best regards
You are right - it is very simple. The long thing in the middle is a "Vapouriser". Inside this is a long needle "Pricker" this is moved up and down using by the thing that looks like a valve but is not. The fuel sprays out of the top of the vapouriser (as a gas) and gets mixed with air until it comes out of the burner, where your mantle will be. These are simple to fix/repair but the vapouriser is hard to replace. The wick in the middle is asbestos.
Thanks Fireexit1, but I dont have any needle (pricker) inside the vapouriser or at least i cant see nothing, is posible to open the vapouriser?
You have the last version of the 300x, made from 1950 to 1952 (approximately). Compared to a Petromax lantern it's pretty simple to get going, but should be a reliable runner. ETA: looks like the pricker is missing from your vaporizer: there should be a long thin wire with a spring around it inside. You can't "open" the vaporizer, they're not made to be dismantled or serviced.
Incredibly, looking in my father's drawer I just found this, unfortunately it doesn't have the pricker either
Yes you do need one of those. You will also need a seal kit as the rubber seals will be not very good. The only way to really see if the vapouriser is still good it to test it. They were designed to be disposable. It also looks like you need a new globe (the glass).
Bialaddin Vapalux Vaporiser / Nozzle / Nozzle needle / Vaporizer Generator | eBay Has someone try one of these?
@Leonardo Collares Those parts will not fit your vapouriser, they are replacement parts for one of these Vapalux Bialaddin Vaporiser / Nozzle / Nozzle needle / Vaporizer Generator Brass | eBay (select: vaporizer kit). Cleaning wires are available but will be a waste of money if the hole at the end of the vapouriser is enlarged. Provided you can get some pressure in tank, you don't need a mantle on the lamp to test the vapouriser as recommended by @Fireexit1, first you need to make sure the air tubes are clean e.g. no spider's nests then just light as normal but don't use too much pressure, you need a clean blue flame at the burner. Yellow smokey flames are an indication that the vapouriser is worn and will need to be replaced. Look at items V40 and V49 here Vapalux,& Bialaddin Lantern Spares The vapourisers for Tilley and Bialaddin are very similar, you may find this post useful. Tilley X24B was fine, now not burning correctly = help please.
Yes, the vapouriser will work without a needle. It's just that when the jet becomes blocked with carbon, you have to turn off the lantern and let it cool before you can lift off the hood and burner in order to "needle" the jet. On a good Bialaddin vapouriser, the hole is only 0.2mm diameter so be careful what you use to needle it. There is only 0.03mm difference between 300cp and 400 cp and if the hole gets bigger, the fuel/air ratio will be wrong and the lamp will burn with a sooty flame. You can't adjust the air gap like you did on your Petromax 828.
My thought process is that if you are paying for postage from the UK you should get ALL the parts you need at the same time ?
Excelent Henry, thanks, I will try to see if the vaporiseur works. Yes Fireexit1, I think I will finally do a combine shipping, my fear is the glass...
