Here is a lantern I first saw at Newark in 2004(neils) and started my intrest in the Blanchard lamps well finally after 11 years of looking waiting I got one from a fellow collector on this site and same as buses the week after one turned up on ebay never would have believed it after all those years looking!!!! Anyway it is a lamp I like. Now its all steel except for the burner which is brass as other Blanchard burners are although it is of much simple type design. The lamp has Greville street on the nameplate now this is where stills moved manufacture after 1937 so its quite a late lamp. When you look at what tilley and vapalux were making at that time I can understand why there are not many of these around they give a great light but are a big heavy lump and not as simple to service as a tilley by far.
Thanks Conny yeh this lamp is interesting its not everyone's cup of tea but does it for me Cheers pete
Congratulations Pete, that is a beautiful lamp. Reminds me of the days when things were built to last. The pictures from inside the hood are appreciated.
Yes thanks Dave you know it still looks cramped on that shelf if you need more room the one on the right would find a home here if you like Cheers pete
Hi john yes this is built like a tank don't think it would suffer much if it rolled down a flight of stairs even I wont be testing the theory anytime soon tho Cheers pete
I know you don't mean that Dave surely the huge amount I paid for it eased the pain a little and you made an old man a very happy chappie your good deed done eh Cheers pete
