Tilley 3.jpg Tilley 4.jpg I've just got home with this X246B with a chrome base from March 1972. I was getting some seals and a vapouriser from Base Camp for my X246A, and I just had to get it (shiny thing make it all better!). So now I have a collection. This all my neighbour's fault for giving me the 246A over the fence!

For your information, if they had the radio on in the factory when they made this lamp they may well have been listening to Without You by Nilsson, which was number one at the time. Not my cup of tea, as Slade were more my thing back then.

I managed eventually to shake off the virus that caused stove pox for a few years, but the lamp bug is proving more resistant to any treatment I can find. I fear there's no cure...

Oh dear, I suppose that the rash must have been embarrassing and may have led to misunderstandings. I am concerned that I've been eying up a Valor Junior paraffin heater. Perhaps I need counselling to nip this in the bud.

I feel that I should be looking at porn, like normal men.

A smart looking lantern. One small detail though, the insect shield is actually upside down. If you turn it over, you'll find it easier to get the meths torch onto the vapouriser.

Thanks for the advice. I've turned it over and you are right, it's a lot easier.

Talking about catching the bug ........... About 2 years ago my wife saw an Alladin 1A Storm light for sale at the local Toowoomba market. I looked like something that I'd enjoy getting to work. At this point I might add that I can still remember our family home been lit by kerosene lamps and to this day love the smell of burnt kerosene. Well that first lamp took some fettilng, what would one expect for $20 Aussie. Well I got it to work and in doing so my wife fears that the bug not only bit me but took a sizable chunk in doing so.
I decided on Tilley lamps and to date I have fettled 12 lamps and built 2 Frankie's. I've travelled to the dark side, pressure stoves, and have tinkered and restored 2 plus to restored 2 blow lamps. They are all inhabiting my shed, with some taking pride of place in our home..........
The pressure lamps are the evil ones ....... Once you got the bug it's my experience that you are hooked and indeed why not? Resistance is futile!
