Claus, I don't think Ross is at all fussy how the subscription is paid - just send him a PT and I've no doubt at all some arrangement can be made. On the other hand, just send me your spare SDR and I'll pay your subs - life membership! Let me know... Oh, yes - I think long/large and short/small simply refer to the overall height of the lantern. Nothing to do with the reflectors and/or glass The other thing is I suspect the Excellent/LDR was just a very short-lived stop-gap directly after the war until the X246 became available in 1946. I've seen an SDR in use and it was indistinguishable from an ordinary lantern - certainly no brighter and it didn't throw any noticeable 'beam' of light and definitely not over an extended distance. An expensive gimmick if you ask me, along the same lines as the X359 i.e. no real benefit for a lot of extra cost...
A long lamp and and a short lamp still dosen't sound right to me but until someone comes up with something better we will just have to wait.
Well 'long' and 'short' could be Tilley shorthand for the length of the vapouriser but realistically, we've absolutely no idea what any of the letters mean. Incidentally, I think it's actually SDR as opposed to S.D.R. - which only heightens the impression the letters are abbreviations for separate words It's the same with PL, KL, OL, SL and the like - you can make educated guesses, but that's all they are...
Good point - my lantern hasn't got a transfer so I was going by what it says in Jim Dick's book and didn't notice that on the images Claus posted. It must be these damned varifocals...
Normally I just send Money in a envelope - why so advanced. Paypal is also internetbanking in my World and I didnt get it to it yet - but some fine day I will. Claus C
