Hello Pete, I have never seen one in the flesh so to speak. Perhaps the SP1 had a short production run and I wonder what situations it would have been used in, any ideas anyone? The rarest Tilley which I have is an R-2 and the link below shows it and there is a link in the thread which shows an unused example and I knew of another collector who had the tank for an R-2. Does anyone know of other examples? TILLEY R2.
Hello Pete, perhaps the SP1 was used on airfields, but until some relevant paperwork turns up it's all speculation.
Hmm.. that’s a dinky one so, it has the same type of top as the ones seen on the FL5 (and some others) with a sharper edge to the top of the tank? but this tank is the same diameter and similar size to the more standard (later) FL6 and that seems to have become the standard for all the long burn types of industrial lanterns and heaters? i assume it was a cost exercise unless there was an advantage to the later more rounded shape? fixings for a more ergonomic pump angle? great to know there is 1 and perhaps more out there thanks pb
@podbros The tank is similar size to the FL6 tho with sharper edges like you say. The top drum with the fresnel lens was smaller than than the 14inch reflectors that are on the FL series of lamp. From what i remember it was 9 or 10 inch diameter i reckon. Nice lamp tho wish i had one too Cheers pete This lamp was first around in june 1935 Found some more pictures
